Based in Virginia, Cameron Tygett served in the US Navy for 14 years aboard numerous ships and in various logistics positions. Throughout his military career, Cameron Tygett oversaw amphibious operations across five countries and participated in Navy humanitarian programs. He received a letter of appreciation for his volunteer work with the Singapore Community Relations Project for Project Handclasp Singapore.
Project Handclasp is a long-standing humanitarian aid project, sponsored by the US Navy. The stated aims of Project Handclasp are to allocate medical help and materials to communities in need. It serves as a public relations initiative and counterinsurgency organization. The project was initiated in 1962, during the Vietnam war, succeeding in the earlier “Operation Handclasp” which aimed to support American efforts around the world by humanitarian means.
Many charities, foreign organizations, and embassies collaborate with Project Handclasp to organize and transport donated materials to countries that have requested humanitarian aid from the United States. The Project is also supported by the Project Handclasp Foundation, a non-profit organization in San Diego, California.
